Basement Insulation
The use of XPS thermal insulation boards enables excellent thermal insulation of basement walls and of areas with mechanical heavy load, e.g. below basement floors.
Perimeter Insulation with Austrotherm
The perimeter insulation, that is thermal insulation of the external basement wall, reduces heat loss in both heated and non-heated cellars. The Austrotherm XPS insulation boards provide good thermal insulation, are water-repellent and able to resist high compression strength. Therefore mounted on the outside cellar walls, they reduce the cost of finishing works.  

Furthermore, the pink thermal insulation boards are excellent vapour barrier. The specified heat insulation value of perimeter insulations is U (k) = 0.40 [W/m2K].

The standard low energy building requires insulation at least 100 mm thick. When it is attached to the outside wall of the basement, useful space inside can be saved and thermal bridges avoided.

Drainage with Austrotherm EPS® Drain Board
This light-weight Austrotherm EPS® Drain Board is not used for the thermal insulation but for the drainage of unwelcome seepage water.

These boards are used for horizontal and vertical drainages at retaining walls, planting superstructures and basement walls.

Its low weight (1.5 kg/m² with a thickness of 10 cm in comparison to 180 kg/m² for a drain layer of cobbles) reduces static stress of the roof constructions.
