The inverted roof is a flat roof construction; the main feature is that, unlike in the conventional flat roof construction, thermal insulation is laid above the moisture sealing. Only when insulation materials with practically no water absorption were developed that construction became possible. This roof construction has 3 main features and their interaction ensures longevity of flat roof construction. Safety:
The protection of the support structure against changes in temperature and moisture has to be secured by a durable and moisture resistant sealing. It is important to protect the moisture sealing level with XPS thermal insulation against heat and freezing. Thus, in one easy step, you obtain additional moisture sealing level as well as thermal insulation level. Contrary to conventional non-ventilated flat roofs the Austrotherm TOP® / Austrotherm XPS® thermal insulation boards allow practically no temperature changes influence the moisture sealing.
Furthermore, the moisture sealing is protected against any unintentional damage during the fitting phase. Flat roofs built according to the inverted principle have been approved for years and correspond with the „established rules of technique“. Simplicity:
Straight division of supporting structure – moisture sealing and thermal insulation – all in one layer. A vapour barrier and a vapour pressure compensation layer under the moisture sealing are not necessary. Economy:
Simple structure and durability - that is what makes inverted roof construction so successful. And it is XPS thermal insulation boards that make it so efficient in saving energy. Thanks to its excellent insulation characteristics, the calculated value of the thermal conductivity is 0.035 W/mK, the thickness of XPS can be smaller in comparison to other thermal insulation materials. Therefore heating costs can be reduced with no costs to the environment.
